AmHere vs. Messaging Apps: Why We Built an App Without a Chat Box
How AmHere differs from WhatsApp, iMessage and social apps: no chat threads, no read-receipt pressure, gentle cooldowns and a small inner circle.
AmHere is not a replacement for your messaging app. It's the thing you use before you'd ever open one—when you want someone to feel thought of, but don't have anything to say.
What's different
- Prompts instead of a chat box: short phrases up to 40 characters, like “Miss you, really!” or “Call me when you're free”.
- No endless threads: a nudge arrives as a soft notification and a gentle full-screen moment, then it's done.
- Gentle limits: the same prompt to the same person rests for 15 minutes. SOS always goes through.
- Inner circle only: connect by AmHere ID, QR code or an invite link—no followers, no feed.
- A 5-second undo: change your mind before anything is sent.
When to use which
Use messaging for plans and conversations. Use AmHere for presence: the quiet, everyday signal that says I'm here.
